The Client-Server Solution
The Client/Server Solution
The Corporate Desktop Portal (CDP) is revolutionary
application specially designed for corporations, their
employees, and their customers. Unlike regular browsers
that are only client applications, the CDP is a client/server
application. Now, IT managers can control and update
the links bar, search engine and available video for
each office, department, employee or customer. And by
storing options, preferences and play lists on the server,
the CDP is optimal for remote login and home offices.
Multimedia
Streaming Video
To this point, accessing streaming media on the Internet
and within corporations has been a cumbersome proposition,
and employees are not fully utilizing the multimedia
resources available to them. With the CDP, locating
and watching streaming video is easy. Employees customize
their viewing experience, and subscribe to programming
channels relevant to their business needs. By pre-selecting
their video playlist from the company program
menu, employees can watch videos continuously in the
order they have selected. Emlpoyees can also now multitask
while watching video on the web. Since the CDP’s video
screen is embedded into the browser, and not on any
particular web page, employees can check email, write
a letter, or navigate the web while their playlist is
running. TV Mode allows workers to view only
the media player while multitasking, or they can view
programs in full screen mode.
Ad Serving Technology
The CDP advertising technology allows for targeted
serving of video advertisements or corporate video announcements
to the PC. With the ability to push video announcements
to their employees, corporations can more effectively
deliver internal announcements, CEO messages, research,
and other information to their employees. Video announcements
are served between content clips within the playlist
or can be pushed to the desktop by the IT manager. Announcements
can be targeted throughout the company by office, department,
demographics, content adjacency, etc. In addition, announcements
are interactive, such that employees or customers
may click on the video window, and immediately view
the web page associated with that particular announcement.
TV Tuner Card Compatibility
and PVR Functionality
The CDP integrates with Microsoft WDM compatible TV
Tuner cards allowing employees to watch live television.
This is especially useful for the financial and brokerage
markets for real time viewing of CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg,
and other financial networks. Employees can also record
their programs with the Personal Video Recorder (PVR)
built in.
Breaking News & Video
Alert
CDP automatically notifies employees of new videos
or messages so that they can keep up with the latest
company news and information without having to actively
seek it out.
Real
Time Communication
Video Conferencing
The video conferencing client allows for peer-to-peer
conferencing within the corporation or throughout the
Internet. For corporations, RapidConference will bring
live calls, product launches and CEO messages right
to the employee's desktop. Furthermore, RapidConference
is a natural extension to the Company's RapidManager
content integration technology for archiving and streaming
playback of live events. Employees and customers must
have a WDM compatible video camera installed on their
system. As more and more employees work remotely, the
CDP video conferencing is an invaluable corporate communication
tool.
Instant Messaging
& Chat
RapidMedia's Instant Messaging is a secure, flexible
solution for real-time corporate communication. The
custom IM client offers competitive advantages to enterprises
today by accelerating and streamlining key business
operations. Companies of all sizes can instantly connect
and communicate with co-workers, partners, customers,
suppliers and distributors. Companies also have the
option of including RapidMedia multi-network IM -compatible
with major consumer services AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ.
Web
Navigation
Links Bar
The links bar allows for quick, convenient access
to company links and the best of the web by displaying
a set of links (News, Human Resources, Sales, etc.)
which can be preset for users by the IT administrator
via the RapidManager. Links can also be updated and
changed dynamically for each office, department, employee,
etc.
Search
Search Bar integration makes it easy to quickly perform
web searches without having to open a search page. The
IT manager sets the default search engine to the corporation’s
partner search engine, or the company can allow workers
to select their own search engine. In order to limit
employee web surfing, corporations have the option to
strip out the search functionality, thus, limiting employees
to the preset company site on the customized links bar.
Tabs-Based Browsing
CDP's unique tab-based browsing allows employees to
open multiple web pages and navigate within the pages
separately, thus increasing browsing efficiency as employees
are able to view and compare web pages easily.
Multiple Home Pages
IT managers can dynamically set up to seven multiple
home pages to open automatically when employees sign
on the CDP. Companies can set the home pages to their
web properties, or dynamically “push” pages to employees
at any time with new pages, training, announcements,
etc.
Access
Auto Login
The CDP technology facilitates single sign on to multiple
web services. This “passport” functionality stores employee
login information for multiple web applications within
corporations for ease of use. The consumer version of
the RapidBrowser showcases the passport capabilities,
allowing users to auto login to popular Yahoo! and Hotmail
email services.
Remote Login
Because The CDP is a client/server application, employees
can log into their account from any computer. All of
the customized settings, favorites, and content are
automatically retrieved from the server. With more and
more employees working remotely and from home, the CDP
allows for seamless access to company information while
keeping a consistent corporate desktop environment for
each employee.
Email
The CDP integrates with POP3 email for message notices.
The email button on the navigation bar is customizable
to launch the company’s email program. Again, great
for remote workers.
Server Storage
The CDP is designed to make Favorites easier to use
and more accessible by the employee. By default, The
CDP can import Favorites from IE and load them into
the CDP’s Favorites menu. These Favorites can then be
uploaded to the server so that they area available no
matter which computer the user logs into.
